    Pasay City — The Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) successfully concluded the Technology Transfer and Business Development Officers (TTBDO) Summit 2025, a two-day event, which brought together innovation leaders, researchers, and technology transfer officers (TTOs) from across the country to strengthen the national ecosystem for research and development (R&D) commercialization.
    Held on October 06 to 07, 2025, the summit served as a platform for sharing best practices, addressing common challenges, and aligning policies to make technology transfer more effective and responsive to the needs of the Filipino people.
    The discussions revolved around harmonizing policy frameworks, streamlining processes for intellectual property management, and building stronger partnerships between government, academe, and industry.
    Participants from Research and Development Institutes (RDIs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) actively exchanged insights on how to move innovations from the laboratory to the market.  The event also provided a space for TTOs to collaborate in strengthening institutional capacity and exploring opportunities for commercialization support through DOST and DOST-TAPI programs.

    In his welcome remarks, DOST Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communications, and Commercialization, Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., PhD, highlighted the summit’s role in aligning national efforts to advance Filipino R&D from the laboratory to the marketplace.

    The successful transfer of knowledge and innovations into viable products and services requires strong capacity and synergy among all of us. This summit is a direct response to that need; providing a venue for collaboration, clarity, and action,

    Asec. Juanillo said.

    This year’s TTBDO Summit comes at a time when the country achieved its highest ranking in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025, placing 50th among 139 economies.  This is a milestone that underscores the country’s steady progress in building an enabling environment for innovation.
    The achievement highlights the collective efforts of Filipino researchers, entrepreneurs, and policy advocates working together to translate science and technology into tangible benefits for society.
    Throughout the two-day forum, the participants emphasized the importance of creating a unified and coherent approach to technology transfer—one that balances policy clarity with practical implementation.  The sessions featured discussions on aligning institutional policies, bridging the gaps between R&D and commercialization, and ensuring that publicly funded research delivers maximum public value.

    The event concluded with optimism as TTOs reaffirmed their shared mission to advance Filipino innovations from policy to practice. With continued collaboration under the DOST-TAPI’s leadership, the summit reinforced the country’s momentum toward a stronger, more integrated innovation ecosystem.
