Manila, Philippines —The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the country's lead government agency tasked with steering scientific, technological, and innovation efforts, has further solidified the international standing of Filipino innovators ahead of the 1st International Conference and Exposition on Innovations (ICE on I) with the campaign banner PHILIPPiNEXT, scheduled this July 14–17 at Okada Manila.
The Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) serves as the implementing arm of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), advancing the commercialization of research and scientific outputs, providing intellectual property (IP) support, and promoting Filipino innovations in both local and international markets. Guided by its vision to be a strategic partner in advancing national socio-economic growth by advocating a culture of innovation and promoting globally-competitive, useful technologies, the Institute has turned this vision into a reality.

Under the leadership of its Director, Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, the Institute has strategically shifted its focus toward showcasing and promoting homegrown innovations. Her administration has created partnerships with international organizations, marking significant milestones, one of which was the Institute’s full membership in the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA) on March 27, 2023.
Established in 1968 in London under the guidance of the United Nations, IFIA serves as a key platform for global collaboration in the field of invention. Through this membership, DOST-TAPI has expanded the international footprint of Filipino innovations, granting them access to inventor networks, global competitions, and commercialization opportunities. Participation in global expos also provides Filipino innovators with valuable insights into emerging technological trends and opens doors to potential partnerships and investors.
From Global Showcases to Global Solutions
In the past year (2024) and the early months of 2025, through DOST-TAPI’s Science and Technology Promotion for International Contest and Exhibits (SPICE) Program, the Institute has translated its vision into concrete action, bringing homegrown innovations from the Philippines into the global stage. These innovations not only address pressing national challenges but also contribute meaningful solutions to global problems.
